Use of personal data collected

Comments

When you leave a comment on our website, the data entered into the comment form, as well as your IP address and your browser's user agent, are collected to help us detect unwanted comments.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to see if you use it. Gravatar's privacy notice is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. If your comment is validated, your profile picture will be visible publicly next to your comment.

Media

If you are a registered user and you upload images to the website, we advise you to avoid uploading images containing GPS coordinate EXIF data. Visitors to your website can download and extract location data from these images.

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is for your convenience only, so you don’t have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit the login page, a temporary cookie will be created to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. It does not contain any personal data and will be automatically deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will set up a number of cookies to save your login information and your screen preferences. The lifespan of a login cookie is two days, and that of a screen option cookie is one year. If you tick «Remember me», your login cookie will be kept for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookie will be erased.

When editing or publishing a post, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data. It simply indicates the ID of the post you have just edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other sites

The articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles…). Content embedded from other sites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor had visited the other site.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking tools, and track your interactions with these embedded contents if you have an account logged in on their website.

Use and transmission of your personal data

Retention periods for your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognise and automatically approve any follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on our site (if possible), we also store the personal data indicated in their profile. All users can view, modify or delete their personal information at any time (with the exception of their username). Site administrators can also view and modify this information.

Your rights over your data

If you have an account or have left comments on the site, you can request to receive a file containing all the personal data we hold about you, including any that you have provided to us. You can also request the deletion of personal data concerning you. This does not take into account data stored for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Transfer of your personal data

Visitor comments can be checked using an automated service for detecting unwanted comments.
